On tuesday 27th september Alex Walton, Photographer for sidmouth herald came into school to do a presentation to all the A level media studies studensts. We spent the first 2 hours looking throught images that Alex felt were particularly strong images We then discussed why we thought the images were good and how they were taken. After break we spent another 2 hours with Alex talking about charactoristics of a good image, we discussd type of shot, rule of thirds and hat makes a good image. In the remaining time we took camera's from the media studies department and went out in pairs taking images using all the different techniques Alex tought us about. I took a few images in different paces around school and uploaded them to a school computer. I then chose an image which i felt were most relevent to student life. I opened the image in adobe photoshop and edited it by adjusting some of the colours and cutting out the background. I then used the text function and added in a masthead and the main features in the magazine, I used a lure to entise people to read more into the magazine. I placed my image on the right hand side of the page spreading across 2/3s of the page with the writing down the left hand side of the page, This is because when magazine are on sale in shops usually the only part of the magazine you can see if the left hand side. I also added the word "Free" Vertically in the top left corner. These points on a magazine are called hotspots because they are the most important area's of a magazine. I placed the image so that the subjects face was in the middle of the page, This is because when readers look at magazine covers their eyes are drawn across the cover in a Z shape.
