Evaluation Question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt from the progression from it to the full product?

When i began with my preliminary task, I didnt know how to use photoshop and how to take photo's properly, When creating my page for my preliminary task I struggled with how to put in coverlines and images, by the time i had finished my task I felt that i knew a little more about photoshop and i had learnt enough skills to help me start my 3 Final Pages. Over the course of the subject i have learnt various skills in photoshop which now allow me not only to progress in my work but also to help other people. Because I started my task with very few photoshop skills I struggles to start my magazine but I feel if i had started with the skills that i now have then I could make a very proffesional looking document to a high standard. At the moment I feel that there are some improvements to be made to my contents page in particular.

Target Audience/ Potential Customers

Evaluation Question 4

Who would be the audience of your media product ?
I decided that i wanted my target audience to be young males and females who are fans of reggae music , both old and new. I chose to create a reggae magazine because there are not many media products related to reggae as a genre. To find out what sort of product my target audience wanted i handed out questionnaires to both males and female between the ages of 16-20. I then created a customer profile to show who my ideal customer would be and what they would be interested in when buying a music magazine.

Evaluation Question 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media and why?

Distribution is a term used to describe how companies get there product out to the customer. For example large magazines such as Q magazine would have an online presence and they would also have there magazine selling in shops.

Institutions that may distribute my media product would be places such as online websites including its own. I also think that although my product is a niche media product it could be sold in places such as large supermarkets because there are not many products like mine it would make more sales in larger supermarkets, I dont think that my product would be sold in smaller shops because they dont get as much business as larger stores and the range of customers isnt large enough to make my magazine popular. My magazine may also be sold in places like book stores, service stations, franchise stores such as tesco express and costcutter ect.

Evaluation Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My media product represents a particular social group, Because of the genre of music i chose it makes my music magazine a niche media product meaning that it only appeals to Reggae fans, I also used up and coming artists in my magazine meaning that it is particularly aimed at young people. I chose not to use pinks and purples, or blues because these are typically colours that connote feminine or masculine veiws and I wanted my magazine to be aimed at both girls and boys. I used stamp fonts to look like rough block writing such as graffiti, I decided to use a male subject on my front page, and then use a female on my contents and double paged spread to show the variety in age and gender of my magazine.
