Magazine Mood Board

I chose to use reggae as the main focus for my music magazine and therefore designed a mood board filled with informative images about reggae.

This is my final mood board. To design my mood board i used the internet to research Reggae, I looked for associated pictures, phrases and people.

My magazine will be a niche media produt because it specifically targets fans of reggae music, I beleive that there is no specific target audiance as my music magazine will include old style reggae such as Bob Marley and reggae fusion such as Gyptian or Sean Paul.

The main colours for my magazine would be red, yellow and green as these are typically colours associated with reggae and jamaica.

I beleive that there is a gap in the market for a products like this becase whilst researching reggae magazines i found that there are only a couple of magazines specifically for reggae ever produced, For this reason i would like to make a reggae magazine.

Preliminary Task : Final Magazine Cover

On tuesday 27th september Alex Walton, Photographer for sidmouth herald came into school to do a presentation to all the A level media studies studensts. We spent the first 2 hours looking throught images that Alex felt were particularly strong images We then discussed why we thought the images were good and how they were taken. After break we spent another 2 hours with Alex talking about charactoristics of a good image, we discussd type of shot, rule of thirds and hat makes a good image. In the remaining time we took camera's from the media studies department and went out in pairs taking images using all the different techniques Alex tought us about. I took a few images in different paces around school and uploaded them to a school computer. I then chose an image which i felt were most relevent to student life. I opened the image in adobe photoshop and edited it by adjusting some of the colours and cutting out the background. I then used the text function and added in a masthead and the main features in the magazine, I used a lure to entise people to read more into the magazine. I placed my image on the right hand side of the page spreading across 2/3s of the page with the writing down the left hand side of the page, This is because when magazine are on sale in shops usually the only part of the magazine you can see if the left hand side. I also added the word "Free" Vertically in the top left corner. These points on a magazine are called hotspots because they are the most important area's of a magazine. I placed the image so that the subjects face was in the middle of the page, This is because when readers look at magazine covers their eyes are drawn across the cover in a Z shape.

What Is Media ?

Web 2.0 Is a term used to describe the way in which the world wide web is developing, it refers to the idea of the 2nd generation of web based communities such as facebook, twitter, wikis, weblogs and podcasts.
Mediation is a term used to describe the process which represents an idea, issue or event to us through the concept of media. Proliferation in the media means rapid growth or increase in productions, for example If a certain magazine becomes more popular and copies are being sold more rapidly then this could be described as proliferation. Saturation is a strategy to achieve maximum impact from using different types of media for example the way celebrities all have twitter accounts to stay in contact with their friends and fans, Most of the teen population have facebook accounts keeping in touch with friends and family and the way that almost everything we do we in this day and age is influenced by the media.

Media is a way of communication and entertainment all over the world. Media can reach large numbers of people all over the world in many different forms such as Newspapers, Magazines, Books, Music, Tv, Internet/Web Access, Landline And Mobile Phones, Bill Boards, Cinema And Posters.
The media is constantly progressing and and finding different ways for people to communicate and keep up to date on world topics.

Social Media is the main example of shared media, Shared media means that different forms of media are shared between many people via the internet, For example social networking sites such as facebook allow you to share photo's, videos, music and and comments that other people are then able to download from your profile or send to their own friends. Sites such as flickr, twitter, bebo, facebook, wikis and   google. Some photo's videos' and music cannot be shared as it is copyrighted for example some adverts on webpages cannot be saved or sent to other people.

In countries like Burma, China and Ethiopia the media is strictly regulated. This is due to the goverments beleifs that media can be and is used to control peoples thoughts, feelings and beleifs. However media is also strictly regulated becase it prevents people from accessing information which there goverments may disaprove of.

Media Convergance is the idea that two or more types of media converge as one. An example of this would be mobile phones, Over the years mobile phones have been developed not only to communicate via phone calls, But to take images, video's, store music, email and bluetooth. Some people would describe media convergence as mass media products merging together.

Media is deemed a very important part of society today due to developments in technolagy. The most common type of media in households used to be televisions however which the recent advances the internet is rapidly becoming the most common type of media. The media is used for various things such as informing people of important issues in society, For this reason media is known as a central part of our lives. Without media it would be much more difficult to find information, keep up to date on world issues, communicate and entertainment would be far more restricted.
